A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan is your agreement with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection. The SWPPP specifically blueprints what your project entails, how this may affect stormwater runoff, and what preventative measures you are implementing to reduce pollution potential.

The SWPPP is used by the EPA as evidence because it is a binding agreement that is thoroughly outlined and extremely detailed. The varying conditions of a project change constantly, so it is challenging for the regulators to fine you for a disorderly work site. However, the SWPPP holds you to your commitment as though engraved in stone. If you do not maintain integrity, the regulators have undeniable evidence against you that can be financially painful.

The SWPPP should be established by a well versed and highly knowledgeable individual familiar with the stringent requirements and language used throughout. The complexities must be combed through with zero margins for costly error.

What is storm water?

Stormwater is water from precipitation that flows across the ground and pavement when it rains or when snow and ice melt. The water seeps into the ground or drains into what we call storm sewers. These are the drains you see at street corners or at low points on the sides of your streets. Collectively, the draining water is called stormwater runoff and is a concern to us in commercial and industrial sites as well as your neighborhood because of the pollutants it carries.

Where does the storm water go after it drains into a storm drain?

Storm water that does not seep into the ground, drains into systems of underground pipes or arroyos and may travel for many miles before being released into Lake Mead.

Did you know that not all substances that enter storm drain inlets in the streets can be removed by a treatment process before entering Lake Mead?

Those substances that enter the storm drain system are not treated at all! Anything poured into a gutter or a storm drain, such as used motor oil or antifreeze, flows directly to Lake Mead, usually via neighborhood arroyos.

What are common contributors to stormwater pollution?

When it rains, oil, antifreeze, detergents, pesticides and other pollutants get washed from driveways, backyards, parking lots, and streets into storm drains and then directly to Lake Mead untreated!

Benefits of Hiring a Professional Commercial Landscaping Company

Save Money On Water Bills

Desert landscapes can reduce your water bill by designing your landscape so that plants with similar water needs are grouped together. They can also choose low-maintenance desert plants that don’t require frequent watering. Incorporating a slope into the landscape can help as well, as it causes the water to pool near the plants that need it most.

Earn Money From Rebates

Commercial property owners who volunteer to replace grass with more desert-friendly landscapes can receive a “Water Smart Landscape” rebate from the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA). SNWA pays $1.50 per square foot of refurbished lawn space (up to 5,000 square feet per property, per year). For converted spaces exceeding 5,000 feet, SNWA will provide a rebate of $1 per square foot after the first 5,000 feet.

Improve Air Quality

While planting desert plants and cacti can help beautify your landscape in Las Vegas, it can also help to secure the soil. This way, the dirt stays on the ground and not in the air.
